For teachers

Live quizzes for your classroom, with no student accounts and no apps

Paste this week's reading, let the AI draft a review quiz, put it on the projector and let students scan a QR code. The free plan takes 25 players, which is a whole class. Afterwards the report shows which questions the class struggled with.

At a glance

  • Students join with a nickname: no email, no account, no app
  • Live games with up to 25 players on the free plan
  • AI drafts a quiz from your own text, in English or Swedish
  • Game data deleted 24 hours after the game is created
  • Report shows the hardest questions after every game

How it works

How does a classroom quiz work in ZappyQ?

Three steps from this week's reading to a report you can plan tomorrow's lesson from.

  1. Paste the reading, get a draft

Type a topic or paste up to 15,000 characters of your own text: a chapter summary, your lesson notes, an article. The AI drafts up to 20 multiple-choice questions with explanations at the difficulty you pick (easy, medium or hard), in English or Swedish. You review and edit every question before anyone sees it, and you can add the other question types yourself. See the AI quiz generator page for examples.

  2. Put it on the projector

Start a live game from your account. The host screen shows a QR code and a six-digit game PIN. Students scan the code or type the PIN at zappyq.com/join, pick a nickname and they are in. The question and the answer options also appear on each student's phone, so nobody squints at the board.

  3. Read the report

When the game ends, the report shows the leaderboard, the answer distribution for every question and flags the hardest ones (fewer than 35 % correct). Reteach those tomorrow. On the Host Plan you can also download everything as a CSV file.

Free plan

Why does the free plan fit a classroom?

Most quiz tools give you a free tier that is too small for a real class, then price the upgrade per teacher per year. ZappyQ's free plan is sized for a class: live games with up to 25 players, unlimited quizzes, all six question types and 10 AI generations in total so you can see what the drafts look like. It has no time limit and needs no card.

If your groups are bigger, or you want the AI generator every week, the Host Plan costs $9.99/mo with no player cap, 200 AI generations a month and CSV export. It is billed monthly through Stripe and you can cancel at any time. Students never pay anything. The pricing page lists the price in every currency.

Included on the free plan

  • Live games with up to 25 players
  • Unlimited quizzes
  • All 6 question types, including image questions
  • 10 AI generations in total
  • Report on screen after every game
  • No time limit, no card

Student data

What about student data and GDPR?

Only what is true, in plain words. The full version is in the privacy policy.

Students do not create accounts. They join with a nickname, and ZappyQ processes only that nickname, their answers and their scores. We never ask for an email address, a real name or a class list.

Every game is deleted automatically 24 hours after it was created, including nicknames, answers and results. Nothing about your students accumulates over a term.

A built-in nickname generator suggests safe names (such as Clever Otter) and a filter blocks offensive custom names in English and Swedish. You can lock the game so nobody else joins, and remove a player at any time. You also decide whether the leaderboard with nicknames goes on the shared screen.

ZappyQ is operated by Expi AB in Sweden, which is the data controller for the platform. The application servers run on Vercel in Stockholm, and game state lives in an Upstash database. If you download a CSV of results, that file exists outside our servers and your school becomes the controller for it. The details are in our privacy policy. If your school requires a data processing agreement before approving a tool, contact us at support@zappyq.com.

Question types

Six question types for different lesson goals

Every type is included on the free plan, and every question can carry an image.

  • Multiple choice

The classic review question, with two to six options. Turn on multi-select when more than one answer is correct; students then get partial credit.

  • True or false

Fast checks on misconceptions. Good as a warm-up, or to settle a claim from the textbook before you move on.

  • Type the answer

Students write the answer themselves: a term, a date, a name. Case and punctuation are ignored, and you can list up to four accepted answers.

  • Put in order

Three to six items to sort: steps in a process, events on a timeline, numbers by size.

  • Slider

A number on a scale, with the tolerance you choose. Estimation tasks in maths and science.

  • Poll

No right answer and no points. Ask how confident the class feels before you start, or let them vote on what to revise.

In school

Using ZappyQ in a school

ZappyQ works in English and Swedish. You pick the language per quiz, the AI writes the questions in that language, and students see matching text on their phones.

Hosting a live game needs a free teacher account. Building a quiz does not: you can draft questions on a school computer without logging in and move them into your account later.

Because students never create accounts, there are no passwords to forget, no logins to reset and no consent flow tied to the quiz itself. What your school approves is a nickname, a set of answers and a score, deleted after 24 hours.

Nothing in ZappyQ tracks students across sites: two functional cookies, no third-party analytics. Read how the QR code join works, see what trainers do with the same tool on the trainers page, or go back to the ZappyQ home page.

FAQ

Questions teachers ask

Do students need an account or an app to play?

No. Students play ZappyQ in the browser on any phone, tablet or laptop. They scan the QR code on your screen or type the six-digit PIN at zappyq.com/join, choose a nickname and wait for you to start. There is nothing to install, no email to enter and nothing for a student to pay.

How many students can join a ZappyQ game for free?

ZappyQ's free plan allows up to 25 players in a live game, which covers a typical class. If you teach larger groups, or run one quiz for two classes at once, the Host Plan removes the cap entirely. The free plan has no time limit, so with a normal-sized class you can use it all year.

Can the AI write questions from my own material?

Yes. Paste up to 15,000 characters of text, such as a chapter summary or your lesson notes, or just type a topic. ZappyQ's AI drafts up to 20 multiple-choice questions with explanations at the difficulty you choose, in English or Swedish. You always review and edit the draft before students see it. The free plan includes 10 generations in total; the Host Plan 200 a month.

How does ZappyQ handle student data under GDPR?

ZappyQ is built so students never hand over personal data: no accounts, no email, only a nickname, answers and scores, all deleted 24 hours after the game is created. Expi AB in Sweden operates the platform and the servers run in Stockholm. Read the privacy policy for the full picture, and contact us if your school needs a data processing agreement before approval.

Can I see which questions the class found hard?

Yes. After every game, ZappyQ's report shows the leaderboard, how the class answered each question and which questions fewer than 35 % got right. That report is on screen for every teacher, free plan included. Teachers on the Host Plan can also download the full results as a CSV file for their own records.
