Tool by tool

Strengths, limits and who each tool suits, in about seventy words each.

Is ZappyQ a good Kahoot! alternative?

ZappyQ is a live quiz platform from Sweden with one plan instead of tiers: $9.99 a month, billed monthly, for no player cap, all six question types, 200 AI drafts a month and CSV export. Players join free by QR code or PIN, no app, no account. The free plan never expires: 25 players per game, 10 AI drafts in total. It is new, has no public quiz library and speaks English and Swedish only.

What does Kahoot! cost in 2026?

Kahoot! Go, the free plan, allows 40 players for teachers (10 on the personal plan) and two question types: quiz and true/false. Kahoot!+ Bronze lists at $3 a month billed annually ($9 billed monthly) for 50 players, rising to $19 for 800 on Kahoot! One; Kahoot! 360 for business runs $19 to $79 a month billed annually for 50 to 5,000 participants. The strength is the huge public quiz library. The weakness is the ladder: every extra player tier costs more.

Is Mentimeter a Kahoot! alternative?

Mentimeter is a presentation tool first: slides with polls, word clouds, Q&A and quiz competitions, answered from the audience's phones. The free plan allows 50 participants a month, a monthly pool rather than a per-session cap. Basic costs $11.99 per presenter a month and Pro $24.99, billed yearly and excluding tax, with unlimited participants per month. Good for workshops and lectures; heavier and pricier than a plain quiz with a leaderboard needs.

How does Slido compare with Kahoot!?

Slido, now part of Cisco, is built for meetings: live Q&A, polls, word clouds and quizzes inside PowerPoint, Google Slides, Microsoft Teams and Webex. Its paid plans list at €15 to €150 a month billed annually, so even the entry plan costs more than ZappyQ's Host Plan. The pricing page loads participant limits and free-plan details by script, so check the vendor page. It suits companies that live in Teams or Webex, not a classroom.

Is AhaSlides cheaper than Kahoot!?

AhaSlides puts quizzes, polls and Q&A in one slide deck, and its free plan is generous on audience size: 50 live participants per presentation, capped at 5 quiz questions and 3 poll questions, with unlimited presentations a month. The paid Essential and Pro plans bill monthly or yearly, with separate rates for teachers; their list prices are rendered by script and did not load in our check. The free tier covers a five-question warm-up, not a full quiz.

Is Socrative a good free Kahoot! alternative for teachers?

Socrative is a formative assessment tool rather than a game show: quizzes, quick questions, exit tickets and the Space Race team mode in a room students join by name. The free plan allows one room, 50 students, 5 saved quizzes and 30 days of reports. Essentials costs $10 per seat a month or $120 a year for 5 rooms, still 50 students; Pro raises that to 300. Choose it for quiet checks and reports, not energy.

Is Baamboozle a Kahoot! alternative for young learners?

Baamboozle is a different format: a team game on one shared screen, where the teacher clicks a tile, reads the question and awards points. Students need no phones, which makes it popular in primary and language classrooms. Basic is free; Baamboozle+ costs $4.99 a month billed yearly ($59.88) or $7.99 billed monthly and lifts all restrictions, though the pricing page lists no team or question limits. There are no individual scores, device answers or per-question reports.

Is Poll Everywhere an alternative to Kahoot!?

Poll Everywhere began as a polling tool for lectures and now adds competitions, Q&A and word clouds inside PowerPoint, Keynote and Google Slides. The free Intro plan allows an audience of 40 (700 during the first 30 days). Present costs $120 a year, with annual billing only, for a 700-person audience; Engage ($49 a month billed annually, $99 month to month) and Teams ($84 billed annually, $249 monthly) keep that cap. Good audience per dollar among the slide tools here, but the quiz is one activity among many.

Is Vevox a Kahoot! alternative for business and universities?

Vevox is a polling, quiz and Q&A platform from the UK with business and education price lists in euro. The free plan allows 100 participants with one user. Business Starter costs €11.95 a month (€143.40 billed annually) for 250 participants and Pro €24.95 list price for 1,500; education Starter is €8.45 a month. It integrates with PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams, but pricing is per user and per year, so paying monthly is not an option.

Credit where due

When is Kahoot! still the better choice?

Kahoot! has the largest public library of ready-made quizzes on this list, so a teacher who needs a fractions review in two minutes will often find one already made. Students know the brand, the music and the colours.

Kahoot! Go allows 40 free players on the teacher plan against 25 on ZappyQ's free plan, so a teacher with a class of 32 who will not pay is better served by Kahoot!. For events with thousands of participants, Kahoot! 360 publishes tiers up to 5,000.

Once you pay, the maths flips: ZappyQ's Host Plan at $9.99 a month costs about the same as Kahoot!+ Bronze billed monthly ($9), yet has no player cap where Bronze stops at 50 and includes what Kahoot! spreads across tiers: AI drafts, every question type and CSV export.

Price

What is the cheapest Kahoot! alternative?

The cheapest line in the table is Kahoot!+ Bronze at $3 a month, but that is $36 up front for a year, capped at 50 players, or $9 a month paid monthly. Baamboozle+ at $4.99 a month billed yearly is cheaper still, but it is a one-screen team game.

ZappyQ has one Host Plan at $9.99 a month (€9.99, £8.99 or 99 kr by country, VAT included in Europe), billed monthly, with everything included: no player cap, all six question types, 200 AI drafts a month, themes, reports and CSV export. You never pay more because the room got bigger, and players never pay at all.

For a small group the free plan is a plan, not a trial: 25 players, all six question types, 10 AI drafts in total, no card, no time limit. See the pricing page, or how teachers and trainers use ZappyQ.

  • All 6 question types

FAQ

Questions about Kahoot! alternatives

What is the best free Kahoot! alternative?

It depends on group size. ZappyQ's free plan allows 25 players per game with all six question types and 10 AI drafts in total, and never expires. Kahoot! Go allows 40 players for teachers (10 on personal plans) but only quiz and true/false questions. Socrative's free plan takes 50 students and Vevox's 100 participants, without game-show scoring.

Which Kahoot! alternative has no player limit?

ZappyQ's Host Plan has no player cap: a class of 30 and a kick-off of 300 join the same way, by QR code or PIN, for the same $9.99 a month. Every Kahoot! plan caps players by tier, from 10–40 on Kahoot! Go to 5,000 on Kahoot! 360. Mentimeter lists unlimited participants per month, priced per presenter.

Do players need an app for these Kahoot! alternatives?

No. Every tool here that uses student devices works in a phone browser; Baamboozle runs on one shared screen. ZappyQ players need no account either: they scan the QR code or type the six-digit PIN at zappyq.com/join, choose a nickname and play. Game data is deleted 24 hours after the game is created.

Is ZappyQ suitable for schools under the GDPR?

ZappyQ is operated by Expi AB in Sweden under the GDPR. Players join with a nickname only, so no student email, name or account is collected, and game data is deleted after 24 hours. Hosting runs on Vercel in Stockholm with Upstash as the database; the privacy policy lists every processor.

Does ZappyQ have an AI quiz generator?

Yes. ZappyQ's AI quiz generator turns a topic or pasted text into up to 20 questions with answers, in English or Swedish, and you edit everything before hosting. The free plan includes 10 drafts in total, the Host Plan 200 a month. Only your prompt goes to OpenAI, never player data.
